Allison has held Professorships at five UK Universities: UCL, University of Glasgow, Open University, Glasgow Caledonian University and University of Dundee.

From 2015-2019 Allison was the Open University’s Academic Director for Digital Innovation, where she led on teaching excellence and innovation and established the Open University’s research programme in Professional and Digital Learning within the Institute of Educational Technology https://iet.open.ac.uk/themes/professional-and-digital-learning
From 2005-2014 Allison was Founding Director of the Caledonian Academy – a centre for research in Technology-enhanced Professional Learning at Glasgow Caledonian University, UK. The Academy was established to investigate the central role of learning in solving the major challenges facing society through work with multinational companies, professional organisations and public bodies around the world. http://www.gcu.ac.uk/academy.
